Can I Feed Raisins All-Year Round?
Absolutely, Raisins are suitable for year round feeding. Birds will value the easily accessible fruit all year round, particularly in winter when fruit and other food sources may be in short supply.
Can Raisins be fed around pets?
NO, raisins are toxic to pets so should not be fed in gardens where pets frequent.
Raisins are gladly taken by fruit loving birds like blackbirds and other thrushes. They are full of natural sugars and vitamins. We recommend pre-soaking raisins to increase the moisture content and make them easier for the birds to eat.
The additional moisture when pre-soaked is particularly valuable in warmer weather in summer as well as during icy spells in the winter when water may be difficult to find.
Raisins are best fed from the ground or a bird table where thrushes, robins and dunnocks are able to access them. Add to a seed mix or offer them on their own.
Never feed raisins where dogs or cats may be able to access them due to their toxicity to pets!
